Send a size, a substrate and a temperature
The wrong part is chosen at a desk, days before anyone reaches the trench. Four facts stop that.
Who answers, and who quotes
This is a reference desk, not a supply desk. Nothing on it is manufactured here. The sleeves, caps, tapes and mastic indexed across these pages come from Gala Thermo Shrink Pvt. Ltd., which manufactures at Palghar and inside the Surat SEZ. Its wrap-around sleeve page sits beside anything written here.
Write to info@galathermo.com. The numbers are +91 7977750051, 7977750052 and 7977750056. Post and courier go to Unit 404-406, 4th Floor, C-Wing, Eureka Tower, Mind Space, Malad (West), Mumbai 400064, India.
Sizing questions are settled here. Anything commercial goes to the manufacturer, which is why those details are printed in full rather than hidden behind a form.
Four facts make an enquiry answerable in one reply
Leave one out and what comes back is a question, not a code.
- Outside diameter, taken over the largest obstruction. Measure across the connector, the armour bulge or the weld cap, not the clean run beside it. The bands overlap: GMRS-70 covers 24 to 55 mm, GMRS-115 covers 40 to 85 mm.
- The substrate the adhesive must bond to. Bare steel at a weld, factory PE coating, a PVC or XLPE jacket, concrete, timber. The three-layer pipeline sleeve is formulated for steel and the pipe's own PE coating. A cable jacket is a different bond.
- Maximum service temperature, hot side and cold side. The windows are not common across the range: -55 °C to +125 °C on the cable repair sleeve outer wall, -40 °C to +100 °C continuous on the pre-insulated pipe cap, -20 °C to +90 °C on mastic. The method behind all three is IEC 216.
- Whether the asset can be taken out of service. If the run can be broken, a tubular part slides on from the end. If it cannot, only a closure applies, and that one question decides the order first.
Say these too, where they apply
- The length of the damage, not only its diameter
- GMRS repair sleeves ship at 100, 200, 300 and 400 mm; GWS reaches 1500 mm maximum. The overlap allowance climbs with the code: ≥25 mm on the small sizes, ≥50 mm from GMRS-115, ≥75 mm from GMRS-180 up.
- Buried, exposed, in a duct or in a chamber
- It decides whether cathodic disbondment is a criterion at all. On a buried pipeline field joint it is the pass or fail, measured to ISO 21809-3. On a cable inside a chamber nobody measures it.
- Quantity, in the unit the part actually ships in
- Sleeves and caps count in pieces. Mastic counts in strips or rolls: HBMT-03 is a 300 mm strip, HBMT-14 a 25000 mm roll, both 35 mm wide.
Not published anywhere we can check
Office hours against the Mumbai numbers. Nothing published states them, so time a call to an Indian working day. IST is UTC+05:30 all year, with no daylight saving to allow for. Price, lead time, minimum order quantity and stock position. None of the four is held here in any form.
Diameter, substrate, temperature, shutdown
Send all four and the answer is a code with the chart row behind it. Send one and the answer is another question. Stated limit: what gets fixed here is the shape of the question, not the acceptability of the repair. Whether a wraparound is allowed on an asset is that owner's repair policy.
